Song saturday; Mozart La clemenza di Tito

 Mozart La Clemenza di Tito

Mozart fell ill in September 1791 while in Prague for the premiere of his opera La Clemenza di Tito. This was written on commission for the Coronation of Emperor Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor, King of Bohemia and Hungary and as Leopold I, Grand Duke of Tuscany. The illness intensified and by November Mozart was bedridden and suffering from swelling, pain, and vomiting. Mozart was nursed in his final illness by Constanze his wife and her youngest sister Sophie. Mozart died at 1 a.m. on 5 December 1791.

Anne Howells (Annio) and Catherine Malfitano (Servillia)sing the lovely duet "Ah perdonna al primo affeto" from Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's 1980 film adaptation of "La Clemenza di Tito"
