West Mathers, a tiny old fishing bay.
These were taken on two seperate ocasions in April at West Mathers on the Angus Coast, Scotland, Some of the original cottages have eroded into the sea.
Its missleading, the little bay itself is to the left beyond the ruined cottage and there are just a few houses there, old fishing cottages mostly. The bay you see toward the end of these photos is the next little bay along the coast, we walked along the coastal path to get there.
yes I have a bit of an obsession for these things and this one is perfectly intact, not a stone missing, even the inside is perfect. Don't think I've seen another one in such good condition
think this is it, I made a mistake, I thought it was in Angus but we must have crossed the border in to Aberdeenshire. Its on the North East Coast of scotland half way between Dundee and Aberdeen.
be sure to let me know when you make it up this way, there are so many little hidden places like this that are virtually unknown and sometimes not even marked on the map.............this is a wonderful place to walk.
5 miles1 tis but a stroll i'm up your way this summer never done the coast of scotland before this looks like perfect starting point! ty hun we was wandering where to start....i have already done most of the high lands coast next incorperating the isles too! o
I did wonder if you might like to live here, just a few new walls, a roof and of course your new kitcken, and you would have the best sea view ever :-)
doesn't look that small to me

Some especially lovely shots of the landscape. Obviously an enjoyable outing, just wonderful scenery.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be something to walk out on those rocks in low tide! Wonderful shot.
ReplyDeleteThat yellow-orange lichen (I think) is in Canada as well.
ReplyDeleteIs that you?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely magnificent!!
ReplyDeleteWhat must it have been like to live there? (Besides drafty and damp?) But worth it for the view.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Loretta. I always enjoy seeing your lovely country.

ReplyDeleteaparently a sign of very low polution levels
ReplyDeleteLooks to be another good place for isolated walks.
ReplyDeleteNice perspective.
ReplyDeleteWas the place abandoned because the sea was encroaching?
ReplyDeleteIf these walls could talk...........
ReplyDeleteThat's a good angle.
ReplyDeleteHmmm.....I wonder what season this is? LOL.
ReplyDeleteStrange how the walls have eroded a lot in places and not so much in others.
ReplyDeleteLovely view.
ReplyDeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteGood walking trails here?
ReplyDeleteLove the red colour of the cliff.
ReplyDeleteAlmost the same colour as the huge cliffs of Zion National Park.
ReplyDeleteInteresting view through the gorse.
ReplyDeleteWWII fortification?
ReplyDeleteI love it when there aren't any other people around.
