Song Saturday; Ry Cooder

Ry Cooder singing Vigilante Man in a clip from 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. Remember that?? I used to love that programme. Ever wondered where the programme got its title?? The story goes that there were a couple of grey haired ladies who used to clean the studio and they were oft around the building during rehearsals or even recordings. The 'test' was .... if they where whistling the song the next day... it passed!! No idea if this is a true story but its kinda nice.

  1. I remember Ry Cooder. I walked into a craftsman leather store and there was some marvelous music. I asked who it was and was introduced to Ry Cooder.

  3. Good choice. Sometime around last Christmas, I saw Cooder perform with Bob Dylan and Van Dyke Parks on the documentary 'The People Speak' on the US History Channel. After the documentary, they were live and played "Do Re Mi" and some Guthrie songs that were excluded from the final edit of the documentary. I believe that he still tours around the world, recently in Australia and NZ.

  5. Ryland P Cooder just happens to be one of my ALL time favorite musical artists. I love his slide guitar work, I love his soul, well heck, I love everything about the man. I got to see him live in a very small club and I was in musical Heaven when they opened with Little Sister! A magical night it twas! I mamaged to get back stage long enough to say "Welcome to Cotati and THANK YOU for a high I will never forget." I then told him and the band they could crash at my pad if they wanted and they cracked up at that.
If anyone ever stole my heart, it was Ry.
    Love this song too!

  7. Hey, that brings back memories Loretta!! I used to LOVE OGWT!! Probably the best music show of all time, I discovered nearly all my fave groups & artists on that show. I remember hearing Cooder's music for the first time on that show. His work shows up on an amazing number of movie soundtracks.
