Heidi there are loads of walls like that around here, it's called dry stone dyking. A dyke is an old Scottish name for wall, its called 'dry stone' because it is an ancient craft that doesn't use any sort of mortor or cement, it stays together because of the skill of the people who build them. Some are new, the craft is now taught in colleges because it was becoming a dying skill, but most are old and now that new people are being trained the old ones are fixed when they need it.
