Song saturday; Janis Joplin

The first video is Janis Joplin singing
 ''Me and Bobby Mcgee''

The first recording of Me & Bobby McGee in the studio. Janis sounds amazing and completely nails it in one take. Is raw and unedited - features studio conversations at beginning. Enjoy!

The second video is Janis singing
''To love somebody''
And the last one is
''Cry Baby''

Paintings by contemporary American artist Connie Tom

  5. In the 60s, my sisters had a Janis Joplin album. I was a fair bit younger than them so they would play 'Hair', The Beatles and some others, including Joplin. I remember them playing the album "Cheap Thrills" and the track "Piece of My Heart" would be heard coming from their little mono player. The album has some pretty interesting art work on it. The song Bobby Magee was popular with them too. As childhood memory is still pretty good, I remember the lyrics to the song pretty well.

  6. I don't really know what a share feature is But of course I don't mind at all Kathy. Doing this page was so enjoyable, I spent the evening listening to Janis deciding which ones to include, I could listen to her all night

  7. I love Janis's whiskey and cigarette voice. I could listen to her all night too. Connie Tom's pictures are perfect with this post, Loretta. I made a comment on her page and she sent me an e-mail thanking me, which was very nice of her.

  8. Yes I have used her paintings before, they certainly have a lovely quality about them, I searched and searched for paintings to compliment the voice of Janis..............and in the end went back to these, glad you think it was the right choice.

  9. She was so talented, yet so sad, with a number of destructive addictions...such a waste...It's fortunate that people had the foresight to film her and record her when they could.

  10. yes you are so right, i've always thought this woman had so much more to give, her talent was raw and in time I believe she could have gone on to produce even better things with her music. So sad, what a waste
