RECYCLED FURNITURE

(Sorry but this is for the UK market only)

I was just happily cruising around the net as you do and stumbled across this. I think this is wonderful, hand made individual pieces of furniture all made from recycled wood. Maybe someone could find a similar site that supplies the US market because I don’t think this company is big enough to export. Anyway, it would defeat the object if they only used recycled wood and then used barrel loads of fuel and hundred of polluting air miles to ship it out.

Please check out the rest of the pictures in my album and check out their web site.

FROM THE COMPANY

Welcome to our gallery of eco-friendly furniture and housewares crafted from recycled timber by craftsmen who feel passionate about wood. We offer real timber furniture for indoor and outdoor use, which is easily assembled for transport, access and storage. All our wooden furniture has individual character and tactile quality with a palette of knots, grain and patina from a previous life.

About Us
Reelfurniture is the project of David Meddings who with 25 years experience as designer and furniture maker has been involved with environmental organisations in the past and sees the use of recycled timber as a design challenge and an active step towards change. This gallery is an opportunity to purchase direct from the furniture makers and we believe offers you a personal and efficient service. We appreciate any feedback that you have to offer.

Carbon Sink
When wood rots in landfill or is burned, greenhouse gases are released and contribute to climate change. Trees left standing act as carbon sinks that absorb these gases. Approximately 25% of the fresh weight of timber is carbon so if a forest grows at 10 cubic metres per hectare per year this would be equivalent to 10 fresh tonnes, 5 dry tonnes and 2.5 tonnes of carbon. Buying a recycled timber product (RCP) reduces deforestation and retains the locked in carbon.

  2. I looked at the site earlier and liked some of their creations. I don't know possibly there are similar sites out there. Maybe some could be found through Treehuggers.

  3. Well! That's lateral thinking with pieces of wood, I'll say. Very unique pieces.

  4. Some manufacturers will only continue to make green furniture if the demand in the market is high enough. Once most homeowners will start to realize the benefits of these environment friendly furniture and accepting them, several manufacturers will start to make them since that is where the demand lies.
