Song Saturday; Lou Reed, Sad Song
For no reason I can think of, I’m feeling particularly melancholy, tired and even a little irritable………and the song seems to suite my mood.
isn't it, the only thing I can think of that is more melancholy, is Leonard Cohen, and I think that would have driven me over the edge into suicidal despair.
Leonard Cohen always cheers me up, I like his sense of humour, his use of language and all of his 5 tunes - I'm a big fan but I could never afford to see him live, tickets cost an arm and a leg - he knows his worth does Leonard.
OMG you are absolutely the ONLY person I have ever heard say that. My sister ( who has his entire collection of music on vinyl and CD) calls it 'music to slit your wrists too'.................probably not is the best possible taste..........but quite apt I think. I love his writing, I still have his two early novels; 'Beautiful Losers' and 'The favourite game'. He is one of the worlds genuine poets but you can't deny his music is pretty sad.
I don't actually find the song sad or melancholy. Ok, Reed's voice does have that natural tone of melancholy, but the guitars and orchestration make it feel too upbeat for a truly 'sad song'.
Better be careful what we say here then I suppose Loretta.....
