I have to say..............this is one of my favourite paintings, i've sen it several times, it hangs in the Kelvingrove Gallery in Glasgow. No matter how many times you see pictures of it the impact of that bright orange hits you every time you stand in front of it. Unless you have actually seen this painting its difficult to understand the impact it has.
woo, this one caught my eye first. On closer look I can see he put the shine on the tabletop, that looks like real polished timber. It's the detail in the timber grain offset with the use of primary colours in the objects that I so like about this.
He had a great eye for detail - see the details put in the sidetable, fabric of chair, vase. He flatters superbly the sitter with dignity. I admire Cadell's ability of combining detail with paintily style. Very inspiring.
It's almost like he has 2 styles. I really like the landscapes with the ocean and his portraits of people that show the style of the times.
