Garden 2012, no 3

Garden 2012 no 3

A short update;
I desperately wanted to get home in time to spend a couple of hours in the garden. It was perfect gardening weather, mild, sunny and the ground had completely thawed out. I stayed over at my daughters last night and was delayed getting back, I didn’t think I would be in time for the garden but I was………….just. By the time I finished it was too dark to take photos, but I managed to do most of the things I wanted to do. I planted a row of red onions called ‘Red Barron’, a row of shallots called ‘golden gourmet’ and a second row of broad beans. My first row of broad beans were planted in November and the shoots are about 1 ½ inches now. Hopefully this means I will have broad beans spread out over a longer period. Planting those took a while because they are in the vegetable plot and it needed a bit of a dig over before planting.

I also put my first radish and lettuce into big tubs. In 6-8 weeks I should be getting fresh radish and not long after that I should be getting lettuce to go with them. Guess I’ll have to do the photos another day.

A sunset through the trees and music to match.

A sunset through the trees and some music.

This has been a very busy weekend, in two days I’ve visited a small gallery in Aberdeen, marveled at the sun setting through the trees, stayed over at my daughters to look after the grandchildren while she went to a friends 30th and then managed to get home in time to do a couple of hours in the garden.

The weather was warm and the sky was  blue. The ice had gone and the sun was shining. I saw the sun dipping behind the trees yesterday on my way to my daughters and ever since then, this song has been buzzing around my head.

‘’All I need is the air that I breathe’’……that summed up exactly how I was feeling as I watched the sun through the trees.

All works are in soft pastel and are of the Maharees and Killarney in Co.Kerry and the surrounding area.

She grew up in New York I was taught to draw by her father who was an artist working in the Museum of National History in NYC. She went on to study fine art at SUNY New Paltz in Upstate New York, and after graduating worked as a graphic artist and freelance illustratrator..

In 1995 Deborah moved to Ireland where she met a married her husband Pat. The art career went on hold for a while they renovated a barn on his family's farm. During that time Deborah used her artistic abilities in another direction and  learnt the old crafty of weaving, she worked for 5 years as a weaver  Mucross House in Killarney.

Once the renovation project was complete Deborah gave uop weaving and returned to her original passion, drawing. She has now opened the Back Lane Gallery on New Market Lane in Killarney

The landscapes of Killarney and the surrounding towns and makes it a perfect place to be an artist.  I chose her for this weeks Art Sunday because the landscapes and seascapes she draws with such sensitivity remind me of the landscape in this area.

She draws scenes from Ireland, but they are very reminiscent of things I see every day.

 I especially like her sheep.
